María Caamaño Albuerne

María Caamaño Albuerne received a Master’s degree in Telecommunications engineering from the University of Oviedo, Spain, in March 2015. During Master studies, she specialized in the field of signal theory and communications.

From June 2014 to December 2014, she did her Master Thesis in the field of Pedestrian Navigation at the Department of Communications Systems, Institute of Communications and Navigation, German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Since May 2015, she has been working as a research associate at the Department of Navigation, Institute of Communications and Navigation, German Aerospace Center (DLR). Her work at DLR focuses on Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS) based navigation. Maria has represented DLR at two international conferences, IEEE/ION PLANS 2016 and ION GNSS+ 2017. At the ION GNSS+ 2017 conference, she received a best presentation award granted by the US Institute of Navigation. She has also represented the department at the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit in March 2018, and at the International GBAS Working Group (IGWG) meeting in Krakow in May 2018.

She has completed her Ph.D. as an external student of gAGE/UPC in the Doctoral Program in Aerospace Science and Technology (DOCTA) from the UPC. Maria’s research work addresses the impact of ionospheric irregularities like ionospheric gradients on the single-frequency single-constellation GBAS Approach Service Types (GAST) C/D systems.
