Prof. Dr. José Miguel Juan Zornoza

Prof. Dr. José Miguel JUAN ZORNOZA received his Degree in Physics (Earth and Cosmos) in 1982 and his PhD in Physics (Galactic Dynamics) in 1993, both from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Spain. Since 1988, he is teaching in the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), BarcelonaTECH, in the Department of Physics. He is Tenure Full Professor (Catedrático de Universidad) of Physics and Senior GNSS Scientific Researcher.

His currentresearch interests are in the area of GNSS data processing Algorithms for High Accuracy GNSS Navigation and GNSS ionospheric sounding, as well as Satellite and Ground Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS and GBAS). In the context of the gAGE/UPC group, he has been developing and testing new algorithms for Wide Area High Accuracy Navigation, initially with GPS (2-frequency) and afterwards with GALILEO and GPS-III (3-frequencies) systems, which lead to the Wide Area RTK (WARTK) and the Fast-Precise Point Positioning (Fast-PPP) techniques.

He has published about 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals (with more than 40 of them in the 1rst quartile of JCR impact factor) and more than 200 works in other publications or in meeting proceedings, with four best paper awards from the US Institute of Navigation. He is co-author of 5 patents on GNSS (2 international linked to WARTK and F-PPP techniques, with 12 associated entries) and three books on GNSS Data Processing. The last one, with two volumes, commissioned and published by the European Space Agency (ESA). He has been participating in about 90 R&D projects, being Principal Investigator in several of them.

As a result of the gAGE/UPC research group activities in GNSS, he co-founded the spin-off company gAGE-NAV S.L., in 2009.
